Gushan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Ningwu Basin, south Anhui. This formation was named by Xu Keqin (1962) in Gushan of the Dangtu County, Anhui. The type section is in the No 11 borehole of Gushan (31º20', 118º30'). The reference section is the Tongzushan-Shanbiancun section in Maanshan (31º40', 118º30').
Lithology and Thickness
The Gushan Formation is mostly a group of volcanic rocks. The lower part consists of tuffaceous sandstone and conglomerate, upper part of dacite and andesitic volcanic rocks. Its thickness is various in different places from 130 to 710 m.

It conformably contacts with the overlying Jiangzhen Fm.
Regional extent
The formation is distributed in the Dangtu, Gushan and Maanshan areas.

Fossils
The formation yields fossils in clastic interbeds of conchostracans Gushania gushanensis,Yanjietheria cf. sinensis, Y. aff. kyongsangensis, Y. cf. chekiagensis, Eosestheria; ostracods Eucypris, Damonella zhejiangensis, plant Desmiophyllum; spore and pollen Classopollis, Cicatricosisporites, Tugeila; and charophyte Mesochara stiptata.
